You CAN make a difference

Volunteering for ages 12-18:

  • Students in Middle and High school can join with Sumner Teen Center in giving back to the community by attending one of our Kindness Matters field trips. Check out our schedule at sumnerteencenter.org/kindness-matters.

Volunteering for ages 16 and up

  • Leadership is a quality that we encourage at STC. High School and College students can earn service hours by leading an arts and crafts project, cleaning up at the center, or even leading a cooking class.  Students can also start a club (academic, athletic, or skill related) and earn ongoing hours.  Did you learn a fun group game at summer or church camp…share it with us.

  • Tutor a younger student – Math, Science, History, and English leaders needed to meet 1-4 times a month for a minimum service of 1 hour.  (Written recommendation from a teacher is required)

  • We love to celebrate! Student leaders are needed to plan and organize celebrations and parties at STC. Involves creating a theme (movie, music, holiday, or event), planning a menu, creating a social network invite, and spreading the word. You can earn up to 8 hours and have a great time doing it! (Must meet at the center once a month to plan with committee)

  • Giving Back is essential at STC! Organize a community give-back and earn up to 8 hours of service. If you have a project that helps those in need, from knitting booties for new moms in need or picking up trash at your favorite park, let’s make it happen. STC will help with meeting space, transportation and promoting your event.  You have the power to change the world and we’ll help you make a difference.

Volunteering 25 and up

  • Chaperone an event or evening after school (1-4 hours) 1 or 2 times a month. Background check required.

  • Lead a Career discussion and share your expertise with the students.

  • Cook, build, or craft with us. Spend an hour or two showing us your latest Pinterest success, your mastered skill or trade.

  • Share a life skill – Show the students some basic maintenance techniques (how to check their oil, change a tire, fix a commode float mechanism, organize your budget, or fold a fitted sheet). These kids will be on their own soon, help them be prepared.

  • Drive our shuttle 2-4 hours a week. No commercial DL required. Must have clean driving record and pass a background check.

  • Party planners needed to work with youth volunteers to plan, organize and publicize our various events and parties at the center.  Events are planned for Friday evenings, special holidays or current events.

  • Public relations team needed to deliver posters, schedules, brochures, gifts, etc to the schools, area businesses, and churches to raise awareness of STC and what we provide.
